On July 24, BMW Brilliance Automotive Co., Ltd. and China Datang Group Co., Ltd. officially signed a strategic cooperation agreement on “jointly building a green automobile industry chain” in Shenyang, jointly establishing a green power joint venture to develop a 1 million kilowatt onshore wind power project. This marks that BMW Brilliance has become the first automaker in China to establish a green power joint venture, opening a new model of cross-border cooperation between the automotive and energy industries.

It is reported that this cooperation is another major milestone for the BMW Group to deepen local innovation cooperation and fulfill its commitment to sustainable development in China.
The joint venture will give priority to providing green power guarantee for BMW’s Shenyang production base, and at the same time provide green power procurement options for upstream and downstream partners such as BMW suppliers, dealers and charging service operators in Liaoning, accelerating the transformation of the entire industrial chain to green, low-carbon and high-quality.
The joint venture will serve as a green energy supply platform and provide stable and traceable green electricity to BMW’s Shenyang production base for a long time through a green power trading mechanism. This will help the BMW Group achieve its “Scope 1, 2, 3” carbon emission reduction goal and inject green genes into the new generation of domestic BMW models in 2026 from the source.
After the completion of the new wind power project, it will become an important part of BMW Brilliance’s energy territory, complementing the existing photovoltaic power generation and geothermal heating systems, and building a multi-dimensional clean energy solution covering the production link.
In addition, in addition to energy supply cooperation, the two sides will also establish a technical synergy mechanism to jointly cultivate compound talents, and explore the construction of green industrial chain ecology and green power certification and carbon management system.
This move will not only promote BMW’s own green transformation, but also empower suppliers and other partners to easily access green electricity, effectively reduce its carbon footprint, and help it launch products that meet the market’s green consumption trend.
This cooperation is not only a strong alliance between the two companies, but also will set a benchmark for green synergy in the industrial chain, lead the carbon reduction of the whole chain, and accelerate the high-quality and sustainable development of the entire ecology of the automotive industry. Promoting “carbon reduction at the source” of the automobile industry chain with green power projects has become a successful demonstration of industrial integration and injecting new vitality into the comprehensive revitalization of Liaoning.
The cooperation between BMW Brilliance and Datang Group not only sets a new model for sustainable development in the automotive industry, but also injects new momentum into Liaoning Province to build a green industrial chain cluster and help the national “double carbon” goal to achieve it.
