Amazon purchases 5,000 Mercedes-Benz electric vans

According to foreign media reports, Mercedes-Benz is delivering nearly 5,000 electric vans to Amazon’s European logistics partners, the largest in the company’s historyElectric vehicleDelivery records. The fleet will be put into service in five European countries in the coming months.

Three-quarters of the fleet is Mercedes-Benz’s large electric van eSprinter, and the rest is the compact electric van eVito. Of the 5,000 electric vans, Germany will receive more than 2,500 units. Amazon said that this pure electric logistics fleet can deliver more than 200 million packages in Europe every year.

The order marks the largest EV order ever undertaken by Mercedes-Benz Truck Division, marking the deepening of the partnership established by the two parties in 2020, when Amazon added more than 1,800 Mercedes-Benz electric vans to its distribution network for the first time. In 2020, Mercedes-Benz joined Amazon’s Climate Pledge program. The plan, launched by Amazon in collaboration with the environmental group Global Optimism, aims to achieve net-zero emissions by 2040.

Sagree Sardien, Director of Sales and Marketing of Mercedes-Benz Truck Division, said: “We are deepening our long-term relationship with Amazon and working together towards the future of pure electric transportation. Our eVito and eSprinter models are precisely tailored to the needs of commercial customers with their superior performance and battery life. ”

Both the eSprinter and eVito are designed for distribution scenarios, and their chassis-integrated battery layout ensures that the cargo compartment space is intact. Both models are equipped with MBUX intelligent human-computer interaction system as standard, which supports navigation integration automatic charging planning and Mercedes-Benz public charging network access functions.

The safety and comfort of the vehicle have also been comprehensively upgraded: both cars are equipped with a new generation of driver assistance systems as standard, and exclusive shelves and cockpit-cargo compartment sliding partitions are customized for Amazon to achieve convenient access to express delivery.

Produced by Mercedes-Benz’s plant in Vitoria, Spain, the eVito offers two battery capacities, 60 kWh and 90 kWh, with a peak motor power of 85 kW or 150 kW respectively, and a range of up to 480 km on a full charge.

At the same time, the eSprinter has become an all-rounder in the logistics field with its long battery life and large loading space. Produced at the Düsseldorf plant, the model offers two wheelbases and three battery capacities, with a maximum range of 484 kilometers (300 miles), a large cargo compartment volume of 14 cubic meters, and a maximum gross mass of 4.25 tons.
